Campagnolo Clamp-on Bosses for Indexed (Syncro) Shifters?
I hope I've used the proper terms in the subject header. This is an "upgrade" path I've never been on.
I have this vintage "step through" frame, so of course there are no braze on shifter bosses:
I *think* the bike was originally a 5-speed as there is a faded area on the downtube from what must have been a clamp, but with only one shift lever.
All I want to do is "simply" put a clamp on (26.8mm) shifter boss pair on the downtube to which I can then attach barrel adjuster cable stops so I can run cable housing down from a pair of thumb shifters on the handlebars.
But this is an Italian bike, so everything must, of course, be Campagnolo. ;-) Therein, it seems, is my dilemma!
The barrel adjuster cable stops have a square opening in the back to match a protruding square metal piece at base of the shifter bosses:
Everyone else - Huret, Suntour, Shimano, etc - seems to have made "off the shelf" clamp-on shifter bosses which have this square protrusion (apparently essential for "indexed" shifters):
Everyone but Campagnolo! The only OEM Campagnolo downtube shifter clamps I can find are ALL "friction" type (circular base, not square):
There is a guy on eBay - paddythepeddler - who sells a custom made indexed style adapter made from a genuine Campagnolo clamp:
... but it's $99!!
Is this really my only choice??
Is there at least one OEM Campagnolo downtube shifter clamp that will accept standard barrel adjuster cable stops with a square opening in the back?
Surely someone has been down this road before and found either a dead end or a pot-of-gold.
Many, many hours have already been spent on this quest and the wife is getting very, very annoyed at the seeming waste of time.
I've tried everything I can think of. Nothing else left but to seek expert guidance.
