Emma and William keep tight reign on Quebec baby names in 2018

For a fourth consecutive year, Emma and William remained the most popular names for babies born in Quebec in 2018.

Last year saw William hold onto first place for the sixth consecutive year, while Thomas, who didn’t make the top names list in 2017, stormed back into fourth place. Edouard, meanwhile, saw a spike in popularity last year and rose to ninth place on the list.

After years of fighting for first place with Léa, Emma managed to hang onto the top spot for females while her adversary dropped to fourth place in 2018. Alice came in at second place, closely followed by Olivia. And Charlie — who had over the past six years trudged from 10th to ninth to seventh place — occupied the No. 5 spot in 2018.

The online index of first names kept by Retraite Québec is visited more than 500,000 times a year and keeps statistics for the past six years.
