Breaking: INEC suspends further action on inconclusive Imo north senatorial election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it has suspended all further proceedings and actions in the Imo North senatorial election.

This development was announced by the electoral body on Tuesday, April 16, via a statement signed by Mallam Mohammed Haruna who is the national commissioner and member of INEC information and voter education committee.

INEC had set up a committee to look into the claim of electoral misconduct in the February election. While the committee has concluded its work, the electoral body said further action has been suspended following an ex parte order.

The case was instituted by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Benjamin Uwajumogu.

Meanwhile, the coalition for civil society petitioned INEC over an alleged unlawful retention of certificate of return for the winner of the Imo North senatorial district election, Senator Benjamin Uwajimogwu.

The petition that was addressed to the INEC chairman was jointly signed by Johnson Omede and Denielson Momoh, for the Conscience Nigeria, a CSO, which led the coalition.
