Protesters rallied outside the Sudanese military headquarters in Khartoum on Tuesday, April 16, the fifth day of demonstrations calling for a civilian government after the military deposed President Omar al-Bashir and took control of the country. Leading protest group the Sudanese Professionals Association had called for people to continued protests throughout the country. On Tuesday, they said “the regime was continuing to dominate all state organs, including the security apparatus.” Despite the protests, the United States Embassy in Khartoum welcomed the release of Sudanese political prisoners and called for the release of prisoners “who were forced to confess acts they never committed through torture and duress.” Credit: @alkangr via Storyful
