Syrian Army Uncovers Guided Missiles And Other Weapons In Western Daraa (Video, Photos)
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered several weapon caches during a recent search operation in the towns and villages of the western Daraa countryside, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on April 16.
The weapons caches contained loads of light and heavy weapons, including:
- A Soviet-made Kunkors anti-tank guided missile (ATGM);
- A Soviet-made Fagot ATGM;
- A Russian-made Metis-M ATGM;
- Three Soviet-made Malyutka ATGMs;
- Two Iranian-made Radd ATGMs;
- Three Soviet-made RPG-29 anti-tank rocket launchers;
- A Soviet-made RPG-26 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade;
- Two Soviet-made RPG-22 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades;
- A Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 anti-tank weapon.
Some of these weapons, like the Radd ATGMs, were stolen by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) from the SAA’s ammo depots in the early years of the conflict. However, other weapons, like the RPG-75, were directly supplied to Syrian militants by the U.S. and its allies.
Radical militants hid tons of weapons in their former strongholds in southern Syria before withdrawing to the northern part of the country under an agreement with Damascus last year. The SAA has successfully uncovered a major part of these weapons, so far.
