We’ve picked out some angles you may have missed from another busy afternoon on the Rowley Mile as well as one from Beverley.
A horse for your tracker
4.35 Beverley – Line Of Reason
Paul Midgley’s sprinter is talented on his day and is lurking on a workable mark.
He was drawn widest of all here – far from ideal at Beverley – and wasn’t asked for much by Joe Fanning throughout.
He was never going to get to the winner but stuck on past the rest to finish a creditable third. It stunk of a comeback run with his next couple of goes in mind.
Midgley is as shrewd as they come with these seasoned sprinters and has won off marks plenty higher than this.
A better draw next time and he could be one to side with.

A horse on the up
2.25 Newmarket – UAE Jewel
This horse had clearly been showing something at home and going off at 10-11 on debut demonstrated that.
Always travelling the best, Roger Varian’s son of Dubawi picked up with ease to stroll to a five length win.
Varian kept up his hot streak on the Rowley Mile and revealed he wanted to run this colt as a two-year-old but it never quite happened.
With an entry in the Dante to consider, Varian believes he’ll get plenty further and has always been one of his younger horses he’s held in high regard.
Big punt landed
3.35 Newmarket – Skardu (7s into 3s)
The money told once again in the feature race. After Qabala got the job was punted in similar fashion yesterday, the bets came thick and fast before the off in the Craven.
Haggas seemed pleasantly surprised in the aftermath, but bookies reacted by chopping his colt into as short as 6-1 for the 2000 Guineas.
In truth, I couldn’t have him for the Guineas and a few including hot favourite Royal Marine under performed in this.
However, it shows that at this time of the year it’s often best to sit back and watch and let the markets guide you.
