65% of ‘Survivor’ fans would welcome an all-winners cast for the show’s 40th season next year [POLL RESULTS]
There has been growing speculation on websites such as Inside Survivor and Reality Blurred that “Survivor,” CBS’ landmark reality TV show, might celebrate its 20th anniversary as well as its 40th season next year by pitting an all-winners cast against one another. Not that it is a done deal. For one, host Jeff Probst expressed doubts whether such a super players line-up would work. As he told “Us Weekly” last year, “We can’t do all winners. As a producer, I would never suggest it. I would say it’s not a good idea.”
The problem? “We have 10 great winners that you’d want to see play again. We don’t have 20. We don’t have 18. Some of the winners don’t want to play again. Some of the greats are like, “No, we’re done.'”
The network, however, is completely on board. Says Probst, “They’re pitching me all the time. And I’m going, ‘I’ll sit down with you and show you the list!’ We don’t have it.” But the host has changed his mind before. He didn’t like the idea of allowing voted-out contestants to come back into the game, but he eventually accepted what is the premise on the current 38th season, “Survivor: Edge of Extinction.” For now, the 39th season will start filming at the end of this month and the 40th will start shooting after “Extinction’s” finale airs on May 15.
Sure, Probst gets to have a say on the format But so do the show’s fans, with 65% of readers who voted in our recent poll pretty stoked to see all-winner’s season, saying that it would be an amazing fight-to-the-finish with the right players. Rounding out our poll results, 11% say whatever would happen with the winners concept wouldn’t live up to the hype. Then there are 7% who would prefer a 40th season with fresh players and a new concept.
As for 8% voters are simply happy that “Survivor” is still on the air and will make it to the big 4-0. And 9% suggest that perhaps Probst could try being a contestant so we can see how he does out in the wild without a clean blue shirt.
One thing is clear:”Survivor” continues to be an intriguing social experiment and one of the best reality shows out there.
A few of you took the time to make other suggestions.
*Cheri: “For a show of first, how about a season of “first ones voted off.” I think that would be much better than winners.
*Pablo J. Garcia: “That will be great. My top picks will be however: One with all runners-up. “Survivor: Too Close Yet Too Far”; One with all the ones vote pre-merge; one with all CBS stars; One with all foreigners, surviving in Idaho.”
*Jane Dawson: “What about the players who were voted off just prior to being on the jury? Or the players who came in 4th because they missed out on the final selection?”
*Scott: “I would say 10 winners vs. 10 first out.”
