Dopey basset hound survives scoffing down 280 Mini Eggs because of his chunky size
BASSET hound survived scoffing 280 Mini Eggs because of his chunky size.
Chocolate can poison dogs but Basil wolfed down the Easter treats after a postie delivered them.
Owners Aimee and Andy Manley rushed their pet, five, to an emergency vet after finding him ill.
The parcel was left where 4½st Basil could get at it via his dog door into the garden.
Aimee, 45 said: “Basil ripped it open and ate the eggs. He was throwing up like in The Exorcist.
“We thought he would die. If he had been a small dog, he wouldn’t have survived eating that much chocolate.”

Dr Laura Playforth, of Vets Now in Witham, Essex, said “Chocolate contains a poisonous chemical called theobromine which is highly toxic to dogs and cats.”
Basset hounds are naturally large and chubby and she added: “Small dogs are most at risk.”
Basil is on the mend. Aimee and Andy, 48, of nearby Harlow, have now put a sign on their gate about where to leave parcels.
