MLB News: Marlins Relieve Mike Pagliarulo From Hitting Coach Position

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Miami Marlins have relieved hitting coach Mike Pagliarulo from his position, with the Miami Marlins struggling to score runs.

Pagliarulo, 59, had been the team’s hitting coach since the 2016 season, but was fired, according to GM Mike Hill, for leading a team that was “easy to pitch to.”

That assessment is pretty accurate as they rank last in all of baseball in runs scored (51), 26th in hits (141), 29th in OPS (.603), and last in RBI (50).

In turn, the team has promoted Jeff Livesey as to the role of hitting coach and made Eric Duncan the new assistant hitting coach.

Livesey, 52, was hired by the Marlins organization before the start of this season, but previously had been as assistant hitting coach with the Pirates from 2014-2018.

Duncan, 34, was hired for his new role because of the firing with his previous high experience being the hitting coach of the Tampa Yankees, which is the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
