Couple in their 80s found dead in suspected murder-suicide

An elderly couple were found dead at their home in Devon this morning.

Police were called to the address in the Chelston area of Torquay after concerns were raised over the welfare of the pair in their 80s.

When officers arrived they discovered the man and the woman dead at the property.

Officers are not looking for anyone in relation to the deaths.

Witness Peter Williamson told Devon Live: ‘There were four or five cars there, plus fire engines and paramedics.

‘The house has all been cordoned off by tape and there are police cars still there – the others have gone though.

‘It is taped off like it is a crime scene.’

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘At approximately 11.00am on Saturday April 20, police were called to an address in Chelston, Torquay for a concern for the welfare of a couple in their 80s.

‘On attendance, police found a male and female deceased within the premises.

‘Police are investigating the circumstances leading to their deaths, but would like to reassure the local community no one else is being looked for in relation to this incident at this time.’

The ambulance service was also in attendance and said: ‘We were called to the area of Torquay at 11.43. We sent two cars and one road ambulance.’
