With only weeks left until the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcome their first child into the world, rumours about how they will care for the newborn are rife.

Meghan and Harry have reportedly hired a maternity nurse to help out in the first precious months after Baby Sussex’s arrival.

They will give the couple all the support and expertise needed in raising a newborn, before handing over to a nanny.

Sarajane Ambrose, who has experience placing nannies with the Royal Family, said the couple would have already chosen their maternity nanny.

She told People: ‘They are specialists at looking after newborns and will teach the mother all about the care of her individual baby – they will then hand over to a nanny at a certain point, usually around the 3-month point.

‘He or she has to be professional, discreet, do a very good job and be prepared to not speak to anybody about her experiences there, they will be on their toes the whole time and it can be isolating.’

Nannies have long been used by the Royal Family to look after their children while they attend engagements.

In 2013, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed suit and hired their nanny Maria Borrallo to look after Prince George.

Although Kate and William are known to be hands-on parents, Maria has been seen stepping in to look after all three of their children while the couple are busy with their duties.

Despite it being thought Meghan and Harry will follow tradition by hiring a nanny, they have decided to keep their baby’s birth out of the limelight.

Meghan is said to have shunned using the Lindo Wing to give birth – where both Prince William and Prince Harry were born and where Kate welcomed George, Charlotte and Louis.

Instead, it is rumoured she is favouring a home birth in Frogmore Cottage, where she and Harry moved just a few weeks ago.

Her mum, Doria Ragland, is due to fly to the UK in the coming weeks to help Meghan with welcoming her first grandchild into the world.

However, Meghan’s decision to keep the birth a secret has infuriated some royal fans, with some claiming it is a ‘slap in the face’ to the British people.

Royal commentator Carole Malone claimed their choice denied the British public a ‘joyous national celebration’.

She told Sky News: ‘This is an unprecedented slap in the face for those legions of decent ordinary people who love the Royal Family and who think the Royal birth as a joyous national celebration.

‘A celebration they have now been shut out of.’

Carole also hit out against claims Meghan wanted to avoid having to pose with the baby hours after it is born, like the Duchess of Cambridge has done for all three of her children.

It means the world will not be getting a photo opportunity with the new family – and it is thought the couple will announce the birth on their newly created Instagram page.
