Pokhara, April 27

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ishwor Pokhrel today said that the government of a party guided by socialism would not become totalitarian.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Madan Bhandari Foundation Kaski in Pokhara, Pokhrel held that his party that fought for 70 years for people’s rights would not favour despotism.

“No people would have to go to the jail based on their ideology as in the Panchayat or Rana regime,” Pokhrel said adding, “The government will not spare those who are engaged in criminal activities under the cover of politics.”

Pokhrel said that in the last one year the government had laid the foundation for the development of the country.

“The government will pursue development works soon, as per the spirit of the joint manifesto of the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoists Centre. The people would witness the development of the country and perceive the change in the near future,” he said.

Pokhrel informed that the government would accord top priority to agriculture, industry, tourism, health and education as part realising the development.

“There can be no opposition party when it comes to development.

Both ruling and opposition parties will come together to focus on development,” he added.

At the programme, Nepal Communist Party leader and former minister Janardan Sharma said that the two Communist parties had united to lead the nation towards socialism.

He stressed on the need to accelerate development works to provide fruits of socialism to the people.
