IPL 2019: Was it sporting? No, it cannot be! Rohit Sharma knocked the bails at the non-striker’s end after being dismissed by Gurney for 12 off nine balls. Chasing 233, Mumbai needed to get off to a flyer and Rohit held the key to that. Once he was leg-before-wicket, he did not seem to take the umpire’s call in the right spirit of the game. Rohit went for the big hoick only to get hit on the back leg. KKR players went up for an lbw appeal and the umpire has raised his finger. Rohit decided to review it. It was a legal ball and there was no involvement of the bat. Umpire’s call on hitting wickets. The on-field call stayed. Rohit had to walk back. While going back, Rohit has a word or two with the umpire before knocking the bails.

What is surprising here is that it is intentional by Rohit.

Needing a victory to even dream of a berth in the playoffs, KKR were off to a flying start riding on Lynn (54; 29 balls, 4×8, 6×2) and Gill’s (76; 45 balls, 4×6, 6×4) 96-run opening stand which came off just 57 deliveries. Gill’s chanceless knock was also his highest T20 score.
