Fatal East Bay shooting victim killed at tire shop identified
A man killed in a shooting at Pittsburg tire shop last week has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
Samijela Vehikite, 36, of Antioch, died after being rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek on April 22, following the gunfire at the business in the 1500 block of Willow Pass Road. Police responded to the business around 10 a.m.
Vehikite had been shot several times in the upper torso, police said.
Police arrested 39-year-old Jason Posey after arriving the scene. Posey and Vehikite knew each other, police said, and supposedly argued after Vehikite confronted Posey over a dispute.
Witnesses told police that after the argument, Posey retrieved a handgun and fired it, hitting Vehikite several times. A bystander parked his vehicle in front of Posey’s get-away car, keeping him from getting away, police said.
There have been four homicides in Pittsburg this year. In 2018, there were three. All seven of the homicides have occurred since July 27, 2018.
