Avengers: Endgame is already the 10th highest-grossing movie ever made
Avengers: Endgame becoming one of the 10 highest-grossing films of all time was inevitable — but it got there much faster than anyone expected.
With $1.34 billion grossed thus far, the Marvel superhero finale is now officially the 10th highest-grossing movie of all time unadjuted for inflation, reports BuzzFeed's Adam Vary. It soared past Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, making more money in less than a week than those films did in their entire run.
This comes after Endgame had a mind-boggling opening weekend, debuting with $357 million in the U.S. and beating the previous record-holder for biggest domestic opening by $100 million. Endgame's global opening weekend was also $1.2 billion; previously, the shortest amount of time any movie took to make $1 billion was 11 days, but Endgame got there in just five, reports Variety. Avengers: Infinity War previously held the record for biggest global opening at $640 million.
Expect Endgame to continue climbing the charts and shattering records in the coming weeks. It should have no problem outgrossing Avengers: Infinity War, the current fourth highest-grossing movie ever made, and many analysts believe it could dethrone Titanic in the number two slot. Passing Avatar's $2.7 billion to become the new highest-grossing movie ever is likely out of reach, but if there's any film with the potential to pull that mighty feat off, it's this one.
