Man City star Mendy to stay at Etihad and put Chilwell move under threat
BENJAMIN MENDY is set to STAY at Manchester City – and put a move for Ben Chilwell under threat.
Pep Guardiola has been looking at the Leicester defender in a potential summer shake-up at full-back.
But Mendy, who has four years left on his current contract, is determined to get his injury-hit City career back on track after knee problems this season.
The Premier League champs are reluctant to sell players on the cheap and getting the bulk of the £52million they paid Monaco two seasons ago is now unlikely.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is also on the brink of signing a new contract and will continue competing for a place at left-back.
Zinchenko has stepped in as Mendy has started 10 league games this campaign and missed most of last season with a serious knee problem.
Guardiola has been quizzed recently over Mendy being pictured in a nightclub and also told him not to focus on social media.
But the City gaffer played down the incident.
He said: “They are old enough to know what they have to do, I’m not his father.
“I would prefer him to go home earlier but I don’t control the players in that situation.
“I’m not frustrated. I’m a relaxed guy. It might not look like it but I sleep quite well.”
