Green (or Black and White and Green) Shoots
There’s a term that the business community uses to indicate that things are beginning to get better in the economy after being down for a period of time. That term is Green Shoots, like a yard plant that begins to show green and awaken and grow after a long and dreary winter.
The White Sox are beginning to show signs of Green Shoots. Some of the young talented players are beginning to show signs of living up to their expectations, both at the Major League and minor league levels.
Sox fans have been waiting and begging for something positive out of this franchise since the miracle year of 2005. It’s been a long and disappointing cold winter of many years of losing baseball and little hope.
But the Green Shoots for the South Siders are beginning to sprout. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be setbacks and that all these shoots are going to bear great fruit. But it’s a pleasant feeling just to know that better days might finally be ahead for this franchise and White Sox Nation.
Anything short of at least a .500 season this year is going to be a disappointment. There still are some holes on this team. But there are no 1927 Yankees-caliber teams in the American League this year. The Sox should compete with most of the field.
Let’s hope those who are paid to grow the White Sox Green Shoots do the right things to create a big successful crop. Sox fans know that there’s been plenty of fertilizer spread around for many years that should come in handy right now.
