Former referee expects the Rockets to retaliate in Game 2

0

Someone very familiar with the league believes Houston will foul Steph Curry to prove a point.

It’s old news now that the Houston Rockets are livid with the lack of foul calls against the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

In particular, the team is upset at how many times contact James Harden attempted a three-pointer, and had someone in his landing space when he came back to the court, without a foul being called.

And now it creates an interesting - and a little bit scary - situation heading into Game 2. According to a report from Tom Haberstroh of NBC Sports, a former NBA referee believes that the Rockets will retaliate on Tuesday night by fouling the Warriors in the same manner that they believe they were fouled in. Particularly against Steph Curry.

“The problem you run into now: As soon as Steph goes up (for a shot), they’ll step under him,” the referee said. “Somebody’s going to do it, just to prove a point. The referee is going to call (the foul), and the Rockets will say, ‘See, we’re getting screwed.’”

That is a very valid concern, and a bit terrifying for Warriors fans, especially since Curry is still nursing a sprained ankle sustained on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

One thing is for sure: All eyes will be on the refs tonight.
