Man United consider triggering 26-year-old’s €120m release clause – report
Manchester United are “seriously considering” triggering Jan Oblak’s €120m release clause at Atletico Madrid, according to reports in the British media.
ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are pondering a move to try and bring the 26-year-old goalkeeper to Old Trafford this summer.
The same story says that the move would throw David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford into doubt as the summer transfer window draws nearer.
According to the same article, Manchester United officials believe that Oblak’s current release clause of €120m represents good value ahead of this summer’s window.
The same story says that despite the goalkeeper having only just signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid, the shot-stopper would like to see more top players arrived at the club to help them compete with the likes of FC Barcelona.
De Gea found himself in the spotlight on Sunday when his error led to Chelsea FC’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
That result has left Manchester United in sixth place in the Premier League table with two games left to play and facing an uphill task to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
