Alan Shearer reacts to Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Ajax
Alan Shearer took to social media to praise Ajax for their stunning first-half performance in their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
Spurs headed into the game looking to return to winning ways after their disappointing defeat by West Ham United in the Premier League at the weekend.
Ajax – who have already knocked out Real Madrid and Juventus this season – started brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute through Donny van de Beek.
England legend Shearer was clearly impressed by what he saw from Ajax in the opening stages of the clash in north London.
Posting on Twitter, Shearer said: “Wow @AFCAjax on this first 20 mins. #TOTAJA.”
Former Tottenham and England striker Gary Lineker was equally impressed by Ajax’s start to the game.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “As good as Ajax are, Spurs have been bloody awful so far. Only a matter of time before Pochettino changes to a back 4, me thinks.”
Tottenham will now turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.
They will then prepare for their trip to Amsterdam for the return leg of their semi-final tie on Wednesday night next week.
