Flashback: 2015 U-17 EUROs

2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championships

With Tom Mohan in charge, Ireland began their campaign with home advantage as they hosted Faroe Islands, Gibraltar and Scotland in Galway, Athlone, and Longford respectively.

Goals from Zach Elbouzedi, Trevor Clarke (2), Conor Davis and Robbie McCourt got them off to a flying start with a 5-0 triumph over Gibraltar before hitting four past Faroe Islands and having a scoreless draw with Scotland.

Onto the Elite Round and it was a trip to Poland, where Ireland drew 2-2 with Greece, beat Belarus 3-1, and lost 1-0 to Poland to finish second in Group 4 and qualify for the finals tournament in Bulgaria.

An opening draw with the Netherlands was hugely encourging for Mohan's squad as they held off a strong team that included players such as Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Matthijs de Ligt.

In their next game, according to UEFA stats, Ireland created 38 dangerous attacks but could not find a way past Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as Ireland lost 2-0.

A brave effort was registered against England in the final game but a late goal from Marcus Edwards sealed the win for England and ended the adventure for Ireland.
