Facebook’s Tinder-style Secret Crush feature reveals which of your friends fancy you
FACEBOOK is adding a new ‘secret crushes’ feature to its platform so you’ll be able to see which of your friends might be romantically interested in you.
The social media giant has launched Facebook Dating in 19 countries so far and the “Secret Crush” section is just a small part of this service.
Users will be able to express interest in up to nine friends when they use the feature.
If any of those selected friends have opted into Facebook Dating and appear to like you back then they will get a notification saying someone likes them.
You will both only be notified of your interest in one another if you have both listed each other as one of your secret crushes.
Any of your Facebook friends can be added to your Secret Crush section even if they haven’t created a profile because they will still get a notification saying that someone likes them.
Facebook thinks that this will entice more users to sign up if they want to find out who their secret admirer is.
Facebook Dating is said to be more similar to the dating app Hinge than other high profile apps like Tinder.
This is because it prompts you to create a more personal profile by answering questions about yourself and starting conversations based on photos or other peoples answers rather than providing a swiping option.
The feature is also integrated with Facebook groups and events so users will be encouraged to meet potential partners both on and offline.
Facebook Dating is available on the Facebook mobile app in Colombia, Thailand, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Suriname.
It is not yet available in the UK but is coming to the US later this year so British users might also get to see their ‘secret crushes’ before the year is through.
The feature is only for people who are aged 18 or older and is completely free with no adds or paid features.
