The horrific twister, which formed 51 miles east away the country’s capital city of Bucharest, overturned a bus with 40 passengers, throwing it 32ft across a field.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was lifted into the air before landing on its side 30ft away, reported Euronews.

Shocking footage was captured by locals, where videos show the tornado lifting dust into the air, and with its mighty image, arousing fear of many residents Drajane town.

AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Lada explained that the winds lifted dust and dirt from the field up in the air, gradually climbing higher and higher as the tornado continued to spin.

Dust and dirt were the reason why the lower part of the tornado is darker than the upper half and clouds in the sky.

FOUR-HOUR TWISTER

Music teacher Mircea Surcel recorded the breathtaking video, but was not the only one streaming live footage of the tornado on Facebook.

Another man, Catalin Ionita, who was driving in a vehicle near the huge tornado, captured similarly breathtaking footage of the storm.

He recorded the footage for its entire four-hour duration while streaming live had racked up nearly 500,000 views.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds also caused major disruptions in the power supply in the area.

Southern Romania is under a code yellow for storms on May 1.

This tornado has been the first to hit Romania in over 17 years, as the last one officially recorded twister hit Facaeni village in Ialomita county, near the Danube, in August 2002.

The tornado damaged over 400 houses and completely destroyed 30.

Over 120 hectares of forest were also destroyed and 14 people injured.

A woman and her child lost their lives.
