Boy, 14, seriously injured after tree falls on him at school
A 14-year-old boy has been seriously injured this morning after part of a tree fell on him at school.
The accident happened at Ysgol Bryn Elian in Colwyn Bay just before 8.50am as school started.
The youngster was stretchered to an ambulance as emergency services scrambled to the Welsh school.
He was airlifted to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool for urgent treatment on crush injuries.
It is thought he was on his way to school when the tree – feared to have been weakened in recent storms – hit him.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the teenager after he became trapped under a branch.
A statement from Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called at approximately 8.50am this morning to reports that a tree had fallen on a male on Windsor Drive, Colwyn Bay.
“We sent one emergency ambulance, one paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and one advanced paramedic practitioner in a rapid response vehicle.
“Wales Air Ambulance are also supporting our crews at scene.”
The school tweeted this morning an entrance was closed to pupils, adding: “We can confirm that an incident has taken place this morning at Ysgol Bryn Elian involving one pupil.
