UK weather forecast – Met Office warns of heavy showers for many as London basks in 17C sun today
BRITS will see heavy showers today as the Met Office warns plenty of UK spots are likely to see rainfall – but London will bask in 17C.
It will be a cloudy day for many, but some warm sunshine is still expected in East Anglia and the South East of England today.
The rest of the week looks to be a mixed bag of weather conditions for every part of the country, but the north and Scotland is likely to remain fairly chilly.
Amid sunny spells for the south, bouts of hail and thunder are possible tomorrow in some of the heavier downpours.
And snow could even be a feature for Scotland over the May Bank Holiday causing disappointment for any planned barbecues.
Aiden McGivern, a Met Office forecaster said: “A cloudy day for many places, certainly cloudier for many of us – compared to the start of the week.
“And a cold front is responsible tied in with this relatively small low pressure and this cold front is not moving very far very quickly.
“It was with us on Tuesday and it’s still bringing cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain, mainly for Scotland, not too much for England and Wales there.
“Now the rainfall gradually through the day turns more showery and there’ll be some heavy showers developing across western parts of Britain in particular.
“Northern Ireland seeing some sunny spells but also one or two showers.

“The best of the sunshine in East Anglia and the South East – 16/17C here.
“Elsewhere lower temperatures certainly under that cloud cover.
“Now as we go into Wednesday night, clearer skies push into western Britain, the the cloud clears into East Anglia and the south east – a wet start here on Thursday morning and a wet start for the north of Scotland.
“A few mist patches, a few chilly spots to start off Thursday but the best of the sunshine you can see in a slice through the centre.
“And eventually East Anglia and the South East brightens up after that wet start, but this area of showers just slides across the country. Hail and thunder possible in some of the livelier downpours.
“That wet weather clears into Friday, colder conditions following on behind it.
MIXED BAG OF SUN AND SHOWERS
“Winds coming from the north, bringing air that comes from north of Norway so it is cold air. And that means that across northern Scotland on Friday we could even see some snow showers falling later on.
“South West England and South Wales seeing plenty of sunny spells but also a few showers.”
Temperatures are set to plummet over the Scottish Highlands this weekend – with snow set to spoil plans for families over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Brian Gaze, director and forecaster for The Weather Outlook, told The Sun Online: “The Bank Holiday weekend will get off to a very cold start with a widespread frost on Saturday morning.
“Even in the south temperatures could fall below 0C and in the Scottish Glens they probably dip to around -5C.”

There have been reports we could see a warm three months, with temperatures soaring as a Spanish plume whips in over the UK.
The Met Office’s long-range weather forecast says higher than average temperatures are more likely all the way to the beginning of July.
And Mr Gaze believes highs of 28C could arrive in Britain as early as May as warm air blows in from Spain.
