Bizarre two-tone tornado rages over Romania for four hours as enormous whirling cloud meets twister sucking dust from the ground
THIS bizarre two-tone tornado raged over Romania for four hours – leaving a trail of wrecked houses and flipping a bus with 40 people on board across a field.
The terrifying twister – the country’s first in 17 years – was caught on video as it churned through the countryside yesterday.
The tornado was so powerful that a bus with 40 people on board was thrown 32ft across a field by the monster four-hour tornado, injuring eight people.
Ten houses were also completely destroyed as the tornado engulfed everything in its path.
The horrific twister formed 51 miles away from the country’s capital city of Bucharest.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was lifted into the air before landing on its side 30ft away, reported Euronews.
Shocking footage was captured by locals, where videos show the tornado lifting dust into the air, and with its mighty image, causing fear among many residents in the town of Drajane.
AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Lada explained that the winds lifted dust and dirt from the field up in the air, gradually climbing higher and higher as the tornado continued to spin.
Dust and dirt were the reason why the lower part of the tornado is darker than the upper half and clouds in the sky.
FOUR-HOUR TWISTER
Music teacher Mircea Surcel recorded the breathtaking video, but was not the only one streaming live footage of the tornado on Facebook.
Another man, Catalin Ionita, who was driving in a vehicle near the huge tornado, captured similarly breathtaking footage of the storm.
The recorded the footage for its entire four-hour duration while streaming live had racked up nearly 500,000 views.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds also caused major disruptions in the power supply in the area.
Southern Romania is under a code yellow for storms on May 1.
This tornado has been the first to hit Romania in over 17 years, as the last one officially recorded twister hit Facaeni village in Ialomita county, near the Danube, in August 2002.
