‘Encouraged by the role Pakistan wants to play in support of Afghan peace process’: Khalilzad
The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has said he was encouraged by the role Pakistan wants to play in support of Afghan peace process.
“Just wrapped up a visit to Islamabad. #Pakistan supports efforts to accelerate intra-Afghan dialogue and negotiations, and is committed to helping reduce violence in #Afghanistan. Everyone I saw recognizes the benefit peace will bring to the region,” Ambassador Khalilzad said in a Twitter post late on Tuesday.
He also added “I’m also encouraged by the role Pakistan wants to play in building regional consensus in support of the #AfghanPeaceProcess. The time to implement has come.”
Ambassador Khalilzad met Foreign Secretary Mahmood and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Chief of Army Staff Bajwa and senior military officials to discuss efforts for the revival of intra-Afghan dialogue, reduction of violence, and Afghan reconciliation process, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul said in a statement.
