Royal Ascot 2019: Exciting Jash set for Newmarket return with Commonwealth Cup and St James’s Palace on Simon Crisford’s radar ahead of Royal meeting

SIMON CRISFORD reports his Royal Ascot hope Jash on course to return in this month’s King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket.

Jash pleased his trainer in a gallop alongside the yard’s Qipco 2000 Guineas contender Sporting Chance on Wednesday morning.

Crisford has had to play a waiting game, though, readying last year’s Middle Park runner-up for his reappearance.

After a gallop over seven furlongs of the Rowley Mile, he said: “Jash was just having an easy piece of work in preparation for the King Charles II Stakes.

“He has just taken a while to come to hand – he is still not there yet, and we have got 18 days to get him ready.”

The Listed King Charles II Stakes, which will be run on May 18, is over seven furlongs – a slight move up in trip for Jash, who won two of his three races over six last summer before chasing Ten Sovereigns home in the Middle Park at the same distance.

Crisford added: “He is just moving forward nicely, and that was nice easy work for him.

“He is a big horse and covers a lot of ground. He is well entered up at Royal Ascot.

“He does have multiple entries going forward, but we just want to get him back on track first.”
