Trump Tweets Point To GOP’s ‘Investigate The Investigators’ Approach At Barr Hearing
In tweets on Wednesday morning ahead of Attorney General William Barr’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, President Trump lashed out at former President Barack Obama for doing “NOTHING” when he learned of Russian meddling in September 2016.
While the insinuation is patently false — Obama expelled 35 Russian diplomats and sanctioned Russian intelligence groups and was blocked from publicly releasing a statement about the findings by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who refused to sign onto a bipartisan statement — the tweets point to how Republicans plan to handle their questioning of Barr on Wednesday.
According to TPM’s reporting, Republicans plan to pepper Barr with questions centered on their belief that the work that went into the launch of the Russia probe should be investigated. Barr has already confirmed that he’s reviewing the “spying” — as he called it — that he believes occurred on the Trump campaign.
Why didn’t President Obama do something about Russia in September (before November Election) when told by the FBI? He did NOTHING, and had no intention of doing anything!
