Sabermetrics news: CC Sabathia strikes out 3000
Domingo German’s new consistency; CC 3K; the next generation of Blue Jays
FanGraphs | Sung Min Kim: Sure, new Yankees rotation member Domingo German hasn’t faced the best teams this turn, but it looks like he’s finding new consistency with the team. Armed with a solid fastball and a devastating curve with improved mechanics, he could very well establish himself as a top-end starting pitcher.
Baseball Prospectus | Collin Whitchurch ($): 3000 strikeouts is a tremendous pitching achievement, and CC Sabathia became the latest player to accomplish it. It’s been 11 years since the last time it happened, and considering pitchers have lower counting stats in modern times, what does the future look like for this? Well, the likes of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Zack Greinke, and Clayton Kershaw are close enough to striking distance that they will likely get there, but many of the next generation are very, very far away.
ESPN Insider | Buster Olney ($): With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally in the big leagues, the Blue Jays could be on the cusp of a new era. And with the likes of Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman joining the trade market, they could net prospects that could easily catapult them into their next contention cycle.
