They said: “There is no better May Day gift as the N30,000 new national minimum wage. We commend the National Assembly and Mr. President for acceding to our demand for an increase in the national minimum wage, however delayed.

“The persistence of double-digit inflation and stagnant remuneration for workers has almost wiped off the purchasing power of Nigerian workers."

Legit.ng previously reported that the chief whip of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Rotimi Abiru, called on all stakeholders including all the 36 governors of the federation to strictly implement the thirty thousand naira (N30,000) new minimum wage bill passed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmaker who represents Shomolu constituency 2, at the state Assembly, made the call in solidarity with the Nigerian workers to commemorate 2019 May Day celebration.

Abiru stressed the important role the trade union movement plays in the development of Nigeria and fighting for social justice and inclusive governance, saying that the workers' role in national development does not only include agenda setting but also policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
