Authorities say they planned to arrest a 25-year-old man just before he slaughtered six family members and a neighbor, authorities say.

Michael Cummins reportedly went on a killing spree at two homes in Westmoreland, Tennessee before he was arrested Saturday – although his probation officer had sought his arrest just the day before, prosecutors say.

Cummin’s probation officer had prepared an arrest warrant on Friday, after he violated the terms of his supervised release for an arson conviction in 2017, but he did not have time to get the order signed by a judge.

The next day, Cummins was discovered to have allegedly bludgeoned his parents, an uncle and his family, and a neighbor to death, authorities say.

District Attorney Ray Whitley said Tuesday: ‘Notwithstanding the deaths, he was going to get the probation violation Monday. It was an incidental question of timing.’

Cummins victims were identified as his parents, David and Clara Cummins, as well as his uncle, Charlie Hosale. Hosale’s 43-year-old girlfriend Rachel McGlothlin-Pee, her 12-year-old daughter Sapphire, and her mother Marsha Nuckols, 64, were also found dead of blunt force injuries at a home.

Shirley Fehrle, 69, who lived next door to the Cummins family, was found bludgeoned to death at her home. Cummins is believed to have stolen her car.

The only survivors of the attack were Cummin’s grandmother, who is in the hospital with severe blunt-force injuries, and his sister, Crystal Cummins, who was not home during the attack and told Dailymail: ‘It’s obvious that (Michael) had to have done it. He was the only person who was there who didn’t die besides my granny.’

Cummins had been on probation after serving 16 months in jail for trying to burn down a neighbor’s house in September 2017 – assaulting the neighbor when she tried to extinguish the fire.

His probation officer was preparing his arrest warrant after he failed to get a court-ordered mental health evaluation.

Crystal Cummins said: ‘My mom was trying to take him to a mental place but he didn’t want to go and he wouldn’t take his medication,’ she said, adding her brother had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

She said her brother had been ‘acting crazy since he got out of jail back in January, so I kind of steered clear of him lately.’

Michael Cummins was arrested numerous times, beginning in 2012 when he was arrested for drug possession. Since then, he has been charged with theft, assault, arson, robbery, and evading arrest.

When he was arrested for arson in 2017, he reportedly told police “if I get out of jail, I’ll go there and do it again. When I get out I’ll finish the job.’

An neighbor, who asked to remain unnamed, told CBS that ‘a lot of people were scared of (Cummins),’ adding ‘He’s been to my house before, and he’s kind of a spooky character…I never like having him around anywhere.’

Police searched for Cummins for hours after they found the bodies at the two Sumner County homes. He was eventually found about a mile away from one of the homes, hiding at a creek bed.

He was reportedly shot and taken into police custody. He sustained a non-life threatening injury and was taken to a hospital where he is still undergoing treatment.
