Liverpool fan who pushed Barcelona local into a fountain named as police investigate incident

THE Liverpool fan who allegedly rugby tackled a Barcelona man into a fountain has been named.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Reds fans identified Martin Mullen as the man responsible for the attack.

The Liverpool fan caught throwing a local into a fountain at Placa Reial in Barcelona was named as Martin Mullen

It is thought many supporters who made the trip to Catalonia for their side’s Champions League semi-final first leg refused to allow Mr Mullen to get away with the unprovoked act and appealed to those that knew him to reveal his identity.

The video footage shows the white-haired male sneak up on the local, grab him around the legs and tip him into the water, which appears to be just inches deep.

Fans can be heard howling with laughter in the background as the startled individual climbs out of the fountain in Barcelona’s Placa Reial.

According to the report, Mr Mullen is a “longstanding fan who has been travelling to away matches for many years”.

Police are investigating the incident.

In a statement released earlier today, Liverpool said: “Liverpool Football Club is working with Merseyside Police and the authorities in Spain, who are endeavouring to identify those involved in the incident.

“Such behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further while the situation is ongoing other than to confirm the club will follow due process in any and all cases of this nature.”

A separate video shows another man being shoved into what seems to be the same fountain.

A fan standing nearby calls the drenched victim — who appears to be Asian — “Mr Miyagi”.

Dozens of fans laugh at his misfortune, as he walks away drenched, checking if his mobile phone still works.

Merseyside Police confirmed six Liverpool fans were arrested yesterday in an unrelated incident.

Mundo Deportivo report that it came after two workers at a hotel on the square were allegedly assaulted and needed medical attention.
