Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey ‘taking a step down with Juventus transfer’, claims David Seaman

ARSENAL legend David Seaman claims Aaron Ramsey is taking a step down in leaving the Emirates for Juventus this summer.

The England hero says he is “frustrated” that yet another Gunners star, who will probably scoop the player of the season award, is allowed to leave the club.

Ramsey, 28, has already played his last game for Arsenal after doctors confirmed his hamstring injury will rule him out for the rest of the season.

And once the Welshman’s contract with the club has expired on June 30, he will be heading off to Italy to team up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Co at Juventus.

But Seaman, 55, thinks the midfielder’s departure is particularly “frustrating” because he is leaving for a club “not as big as Arsenal“.

The two-time Premier League winner told TalkSPORT: “Arsenal will remember Aaron Ramsey with great fondness.

“He’s a great player and the most frustrating part about all this is he’s playing even better now, and he’s going to leave.

“It’s the same thing again, another great player is leaving our club to go to another club which is not really as big as Arsenal.

“For me, it’s so frustrating that they couldn’t do that deal [for a contract extension].

“He’ll probably get voted player of the year.”

Arsenal are planning a guard of honour for the Welshman and Petr Cech ahead of their final home game of the season against Brighton this Sunday.

But in a desperate attempt to stop Ramsey from leaving, Gunners fans launched a petition to the Government, despite his Juventus transfer already being confirmed.

Ramsey has played in 40 games for Arsenal this season, scoring six goals and adding eight assists.

And some of his performances were key in the Gunners’ pursuit of Champions League qualifications.

The Welshman secured a point for Unai Emery’s men in the controversial North London derby earlier this year.

And his goals and assists against Rennes and Napoli helped Arsenal book their spot in the Europa League semi-finals.

Ramsey sealed his legend status at the Emirates with his match-winning strikes in the 2014 and 2017 FA Cup finals – while also lifting the trophy in 2015.

In his 11-year spell at the club he has featured in 371 games for the Gunners, scoring 65 goals and assisting another 65.
