My partner wants me to move in with him but I’m not happy about what’s in his will
DEAR DEIDRE: I’VE been with my partner for 17 years. We don’t share a home but he says that he wants me to move in with him when his father dies. I’m feeling unsure about this.
We have a daughter together. He has a son and a daughter from his former wife and I have a daughter from my husband, who died.
The three older children are grown up and left home but our daughter is only 14 and still lives with me. My partner stays with us, in my house, for most of the time.
We’ve talked about wills and he’s told me that his three children will inherit from him equally. The more I think about this the more insecure I feel. He’s 67 and I’m 59.
DEIDRE SAYS: What would happen if you gave up your home and your partner died before you? Would you be homeless?
Inheritance can be complicated when there are children from previous relationships.
