IPL: MS Dhoni Smashes Unbeaten 44 off 22 Balls After Suresh Raina’s Fifty to Power Chennai Super Kings to 179/4 vs Delhi Capitals, Twitter Hails Thala & Chinna Thala | SEE POSTS
IPL Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match 50: MS Dhoni has once again proved how important he is for Chennai Super Kings not just as a captain but also as a batsman. After promoting himself to number four spot, Dhoni provided the required impetus to Chennai’s innings as the hosts overcame a slow start to post a fighting 179/4 against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. (SCORECARD)
Suresh Raina struck a fighting half-century before Dhoni provided a late push with an unbeaten 44 as CSK. Dhoni hit unbeaten 44 off 22 balls with four fours and three sixes while Jadeja smashed 25 off 10 with two sixes. Dhoni creamed off 21 runs from Kiwi pacer Trent Boult’s final over, hitting two sixes and four. This was after Boult and left-arm spinner Jagdeesha Suchith (2/28) had straight-jacketed the Chennai batsmen after electing bowl. With Boult swinging the ball and Suchith accurate with his line and length, they gave away just seven runs in the first four overs.
Here’s how the Twitter world reacted on Dhoni’s blitzkrieg at Chepauk:-

Chennai suddenly became a top-notch team from an average one with Dhoni's return in the playing XI. CSK got off to a horrific start as opener Shane Watson played forgettable innings of 0 off 9 ball knock. After he departed, Raina provided the much-needed impetus to the CSK's innings. Faf du Plessis was playing the role of anchor to perfection and they added 83 runs in 61 balls which took them out of the hole that Watson got them in.
Dhoni promoted himself to number-4 and as he always does, provided the finishing touch for CSK. The contribution of Jadeja was crucial too in taking CSK to a formidable total of 179. They notched up 39 runs in the last two overs and ended the innings on a high
First, Dhoni played second fiddle in a 43-run stand with Jadeja, scoring only 18 but after Jaddu got out, the skipper exploded. He was on 18 from 14 when Morris slipped in a high full toss - a beamer. From then, Dhoni's last few balls read - 6, 1, 0, 2, 4, 1, 6, 6 - 26 from his last 8.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl against hosts Chennai. For CSK, skipper Dhoni is back to the side along with du Plessis and Jadeja. They replaced Dhruv Shorey, Mitchell Santner, and Murali Vijay. Delhi will miss pacers Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma due to their respective injury issues. Trent Boult and left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith are included in the side to replace the two.
