Armenia's labor and social affairs minister issues Labor Day greetings
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Zaruhi Batoyan has congratulated the Armenian citizens on Labor Day, promising to keep the pressing employment-related concerns in the country high on her agency's agenda.
In her official address released today, the minister also admits that the rights and opportunities on the labor market remain a serious challenge for the employable population, with many seeking a dignified pay, and opportunities for professional development.
''I know that many people in Armnia need work, protection of employment rights, dignified salary and equal opportunities. Those are problems whose solution is high on our agenda.
''May is going to be for us a month marking the start of [new] projects, as well as public debates over employment rights to later embark on the development of legislative proposals.
''We will focus a special attention on people's capacity-building, creation of a safe working environment, and awareness raising of rights. We especially attach importance to raising trade unions' role, creating new associations and ensuring their independent activity.
''I do believe that labor in Armenia must be a means of not only living in dignity but also an opportunity for self-expression, development, and free and happy life,'' reads the address.
