Simon: The defensive player of the month for March/April

Brewers center fielder Lorenzo Cain’s game-ending home run-robbing catch against Jose Martinez on Opening Day didn’t just win a game against the Cardinals. It set the tone for his month and left a lasting impression in the minds of those who saw it.

Cain won the Baseball Info Solutions Defensive Player of the Month for March and April. The award is voted on by BIS employes and media. He saved an MLB-best nine runs with his defense this month. The Opening Day catch was one of three home run robberies he had in the month-plus. He also had one against Martinez’s teammate, Matt Carpenter, on April 15, and one against Todd Frazier of the Mets on April 26.
