[Softball] Softball Conference Honors
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced its All-Conference Team, All-Academic Team, All-Defensive, and Champions of Character Teams for the 2019 softball season. Ashley Helmink of Siena Heights was named Player of the Year with a .448 batting average, 10 home runs and 55 RBI. Madisen Henry of Madonna earned Pitcher of the Year as she threw 130 innings with an 1.99 ERA and 123 strikeouts. Lawrence Tech's Sarah Hige hit .448 and had 58 putouts for Newcomer of the Year.
Lawrence Tech head coach Karen Baird was voted as Coach of the Year after improving the Blue Devils from fifth to second place this year. Jim Farrell of Cornerstone was selected as the Champions of Character Coach for his commitment to developing character through sport.
Members of the All-AcademicTeam must be a junior or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA while those on the Champions of Character Team best represent the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
