Conor Casey named interim manager of Colorado Rapids

Casey had 21 goals in 70 appearances for the Philadelphia Union from 2013-2015

Conor Casey will join the ranks of former Philadelphia Union players to become head coaches, for the time being at least, after being named the interim head coach of the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday.

Casey rejoined the Rapids, where he won the 2010 MLS Cup, as assistant in January 2017. Anthony Hudson, the eighth Rapids head coach in franchise history, was fired after going 8-26-9 in MLS play since taking over the job in November 2017.

The New Hampshire native came to the Union via the MLS Re-Entry Draft in 2012 and had a successful three-season stint with 21 goals and 8 assists in 70 appearances. He ended his career with the Columbus Crew in the 2016 and was inexplicably sent off for a terrible straight red in his last appearance in Chester as a substitute.

Casey is the fourth former Union player to become a head coach, joining Chicago Fire head coach Veljko Paunović, Portmore United FC manager Shavar Thomas and Racing Club manager Eduardo Coudet.
