Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon (‘American Idol’) speaks out after being bullied online: ‘I’m really not that concerned about your opinion’
“American Idol” finalist Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is standing up for himself after being bullied online. “If you’re not out there on the playing field putting your ass on the line everyday, I’m really not that concerned about your opinion of me or my performance. Thanks anyway,” the openly gay singer wrote on Instagram just one day after his haunting Queen performance of “Who Wants to Live Forever” (watch above). America as a whole was so impressed with this former church janitor’s performance that they advanced him into next week’s Top 6 along with Alejandro Aranda, Laci Kaye Booth, Wade Cota, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. “Idol” judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie had the option of saving either of the bottom two singers — Alyssa Raghu and Walker Burroughs — but they chose to hold their power for a later date.
Much of Jeremiah’s backstory so far has focused around the fact that his religious family doesn’t accept his lifestyle, but things are definitely moving in the right direction. One week after Jeremiah’s sister joined him in Disneyland, his parents visited for the first time from Catonsville, Maryland to support their son by sitting in the audience. “I’m not very objective, but I think he’s the best one here,” Jeremiah’s dad said with a wink.
All three judges agreed with the preacher, with Katy saying that Jeremiah truly embodied Freddie Mercury with his cover of “Who Wants to Live Forever.” “It was like you froze time,” she declared. “It was so beautiful seeing you perform in front of your parents for the first time. It’s so wonderful to see your journey and to see your parents really come out here and support you and accept you and know it’s a come-as-you-are situation, so God bless all three of you.”
Jeremiah’s second song during Top 8 night was a duet with Madison Vandenburg of “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman.” Luke noted that the two powerhouses delivered a “professional move” by staying out of each other’s way at the right time, while Lionel added that Jeremiah and Madison are “the voices” of Season 17.
