Gamethread: Orioles at White Sox (Game 1)
A win in the opener puts a second straight series in the bag, and takes the South Siders one step closer to .500
The Sodfather tells us more than 2.25" of rain have fallen on the field in the last 36 hours -- more than some months -- but our amazing grounds crew has the field looking .

18 innings of baseball to come today, and no more rain in the forecast! pic.twitter.com/qmO0OsaNJi
Not sure if this is precedented or not, but we got fairer sex tag-team coverage today of this spontaneous straight doubleheader between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox. I’ve got the earlybird ballgame, Lurker Laura is rocking the nightcap. Kudos to Joe Resis, who last night pivoted from his banged game coverage to hit us up with the Luis Robert promotion news, as well as the minor league update.
OK, this gamethread sorta snuck up on me, so I won’t wax on too much about the incredible triumph it is that Evan Marshall had his contract purchased by the White Sox today. Let me just quickly excerpt from WSM’s exhaustively brilliant Deep Dive offseason series:
After struggling wth the Diamondbacks to begin 2015, Marshall was optioned to Reno after a tough start. However, what happened with the Reno Aces was far worse than a simple demotion. His career was briefly stalled after being struck in the head by a line drive on Aug. 4, 2015.The ball, traveling 105 mph, struck Marshall in the right temple. He suffered a fractured skull, and 90 minutes later he underwent emergency surgery to relieve swelling and bleeding of the brain. Amazingly enough, Marshall returned to pitch for the Diamondbacks just a month later.
Welcome back, Evan.
Lineups, today brought to you in Joe McEwing’s monastery script:
