A new report reveals Netflix and chilling might be killing your sex life
A new report by the Wall Street Journal has possibly found an answer to the age-old question – what is better than sex – and we’re sad to say that it’s on-demand video streaming. According to a study conducted two years ago, Americans were having less sex than they did three decades ago and one of the reasons behind that could be video streaming. This study was conducted as a part of on-going research to find the reason for the low fertility rate.
While there were more gender-based reasons like high number of women joining the work force and lifestyle diseases in men and women both, a non-binary reason could also be subscription to OTT platforms like Netflix and Hulu.
While movies and entertainment have always been classified as “distractions”, this study is showing that scheduled programming didn’t have as much as an impact on viewers. The reason behind this could be that while watching TV, viewers would get breaks in the middle of shows in the form of ads and wait for seasons and episodes. These breaks allowed couples to flirt, talk and even get some.
But with streaming platforms giving you entire movies and full seasons of shows at the fingertips of their users, people don’t stop to talk or flirt. In fact, a study conducted earlier this year states that one in four people picked binge-watching over intimacy. In the age group of 18 to 38 years, 36% people chose Netflix over sex. However, it doesn’t look like Netflix is choosing you back, as they refuted being blamed for lowering the fertility rate, saying that any subscribed household is on an average streaming only two hours of content daily. And we all know what a big lie that would be because let’s be real, no one is going to watch just two episodes of Game of Thrones and just stop, right?
So the next time, if BAE suggests ‘Netflix and Chill’, maybe come up with a different plan or make sure to at least take a break to squeeze in some real quality time.
