Sir Kenny Dalglish sends message to Liverpool FC about reaching Champions League final
Sir Kenny Dalglish hailed Liverpool FC’s 4-0 victory over FC Barcelona on Tuesday night as one of the greatest results in European football.
Liverpool FC suffered a 3-0 loss to Spanish champions FC Barcelona at Camp Nou last week following goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
The Reds fought back in the second leg at Anfield thanks to Divock Origi’s seventh-minute goal, before Georginio Wijnaldum netted twice in as many minutes in the second half.
Belgium international Origi put Liverpool FC ahead in the tie for the first time when Trent Alexander-Arnold picked out the striker with a quick corner with 11 minutes to go.
Liverpool FC managed to hold on despite a tense end to the second leg to set up a Champions League final meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday 1 June.
And former Liverpool FC manager Dalglish has given his verdict on the Merseyside outfit’s incredible comeback against FC Barcelona.
“This will be the best not just at Anfield, but most football clubs,” Dalglish is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
“To come from three goals behind against one of the best teams in the world and beat them 4-0, it’s got to be one of the best.
“It’s an unbelievable achievement for everybody involved with Liverpool.
“It’s an unbelievable achievement to beat anybody 4-0, but especially a team with the quality of Barcelona.
“You’re not going to get a 4-0 win over Barcelona if you’re carrying any passengers. Trent was really sharp for the fourth goal at the corner and throughout the game everyone playing was right up for it.
“They got what they deserved, the victory, in this game.
“The scoreline over there [at the Nou Camp] didn’t reflect our performance, it was a lot better than 3-0, and yet with the final kick of the game Dembele missed a really good opportunity for Barcelona and that proved to be decisive for us.”
Tottenham came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Ajax on Wednesday night to secure their progress on the away goals rule.
Liverpool FC will take on Wolves in their final Premier League fixture of the season, while defending champions Manchester City will make the trip to Brighton.
The Reds are looking to win their first-ever Premier League title this term.
