House chairman issues Mnuchin, IRS chief subpoenas over Trump taxes

House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal on Friday issued subpoenas to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig seeking six years of President Donald Trump's personal and business tax returns. "While I do not take this step lightly, I believe this action gives us the best opportunity to succeed and obtain the requested material," wrote Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat. Earlier this week Mnuchin told Neal the panel's request for the returns “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose.”
