EastEnders’ Scott Maslen slams soap stars who complain about being overworked
EASTENDERS start Scott Maslen has slammed other soap actors who complain about being overworked.
The actor – who plays Jack Branning in the BBC soap – revealed he tells any of them who would moan about their privileged positions to “get a grip”.
Scott told the Mirror: “Get a grip. Turn up and put the work in. It is hard work. But go and work on a trawler or deliver the milk. Be thankful and understand where you are at.”
He was speaking about the work he has begun doing with his local council in London to try and combat the knife crime epidemic running rampant in the city.
With more than 40 stabbings having taken place already this year, Scott felt the need to do what he can to help stop it from happening.
The 47-year-old actor added: “I am working now with the council to try and set up a programme about knife crime and get a space set up.
“I want to work on a blueprint so actors and musicians, people in the world that can influence people, can start doing workshops or youth clubs. We want to go to local business for support.
“It’s going well. You have to get everyone involved, like the police. I want to get back to youth clubs and knowing people in your area.”
Scott also revealed how he sees similarities to the 1980s when Government spending cuts wiped out prospects and opportunities for many young people then.
He said politicians seem not to be able to see the growing gap between the haves and the have nots which he blames for the rise in anti-social behaviour and knife crime.

Scott added: “I am a parent of an 18-year-old son. I care about the kids, but they need discipline.”
