Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing admits he’s feeling broody and would love kids

0

WE LOVE this place, Jamie! Do you always hang out in Chelsea?

I love it here, too, but if I’m out with friends I go to Soho. This is home so it’s chill-out. I live around the corner by myself. Spencer Matthews used to have the flat above me.

How’s Spencer doing?

He’s so happy with Vogue [Williams].

Baby Theodore is the cutest, sweetest thing in the world.

Vogue is amazing and they’re brilliant parents. He is so in love!

You’re one of the longest-serving cast members. Why do you think that is?

I’m loyal to Channel 4 and Chelsea. I’ve been given this amazing opportunity, and some people jump ship too quickly and it doesn’t work out. When the time’s right to go, I will, but for now it’s great. You should have a destination and work back from that.

We’re on series 17 – how much longer can it last?

There’s a new cast, it’s fun, exciting and really sexy. I think it’s going to go on forever.

On paper, the show should never have been a hit, right?

When the show first started we were a bunch of posh kids living off our parents’ money.

The show was a risk – people work 14-hour days and the last thing they want to do is watch a bunch of posh kids.

But it was done in such a way that people actually accepted it.

Do you get recognised much?

I am recognised because I’ve got bright blond hair and I’m quite loud. But I’m not like Justin Bieber walking down the street.

I can pop to the shops easily. People don’t seem to mind me too much.

How was turning 30?

Terrible! Joking, it’s not too bad. When I was younger my favourite age was 21. But back then I was insecure and worried. I used to worry I was short.

Now I don’t care. When you get to 30 you know what you want to do and where you want to go.

Life is about having a purpose – being a parent, an artist, whatever.

Are you broody?

Having kids is the ultimate. We all focus towards so many things but the biggest success is to have a family.

Everyone says “not yet” but is there ever a right time?

BTW

  • Jamie confesses he’d love to be a chat-show host.
  • He says boarding school helped him make strong male friendships.
  • Jamie isn’t actually a fan of champagne after he got drunk on it at a cricket match as a teen.

How is your Candy Kittens sweet business going?

We’ve been going for six years now and the sweets are gluten-free and vegan. We’re striving to make the best sweets possible.

Tell us about your podcasts…

On Private Parts, me and Francis Boulle interview guests about their true stories. We’ve had Jack Whitehall and Rick Edwards on.

I’m starting one called MOVE which stands for motivation, opportunity, vision, entrepreneurship, where we interview people like Jo Malone about what drives them to succeed.

What drives you?

I had ADHD as a kid. I was dyslexic and was told I was stupid. But my brain always worked on this creative level.

Creativity should be up there with English and maths.
