Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli was among the early voters at Gurgaon’s Pinecrest School polling booth in phase six of Lok Sabha elections 2019. Voting took place in 59 seats across seven states of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, and Jharkhand on Sunday.
Speaking to the reporters after casting his vote, Kohli urged voters to exercise their right. “Everyone should come and vote and I urge to all,” he said. Later, he also took to his official Instagram handle to encourage his followers to cast their vote: “Voting is your right and responsibility towards nation building. Go vote,” he wrote.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter earlier in the morning, appealing voters to turn up in record numbers. “Yet another phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is here! Urging all those whose constituencies are polling in today’s sixth phase to go out and vote. I hope youngsters are voting in record numbers. After all, their participation makes the polls even more special,” he wrote.

Earlier last month, Kohli posted his Voter ID card on his Instagram story with the caption, ‘Ready to vote in Gurugram on the 12th May, are you?’.
Ten Lok Sabha seats of Haryana went to the polls amid heightened security in the penultimate phase of general elections.
Following a dismal season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his Royal Challengers Bangalore side, Kohli will turn his focus on the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup which will be hosted by England and Wales from May 30 onwards.
