Man dies after van plummets off 60ft cliff
A man has died after his van plummeted off a 60ft cliff in Brighton.
He was alive when the emergency services found him in the crumpled silver van at 6.30am.
It appears the van went through the barriers on the A259 between Brighton Marina and Roedean School before crashing over the cliff edge.
A police spokesman said: ‘Shortly after 6.30am on Sunday (May 12), police were called to a report that a silver Vauxhall van had gone over the cliff east of Brighton Marina, close to Roedean School.
‘Police, ambulance and fire services attended the scene. The driver sadly died a short while after.
‘Next of kin have been informed.’
A dog walker saw what happened and said it looked like a ‘nasty accident’.
They told the Brighton Argus: ‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.
‘There were loads of emergency services at the scene. The top road was open with coastguards and police at the top.
‘There were about three police cars there, a coastguard vehicle and the Brighton Beach Office vehicle.’
