Premier League snubs Aguero, Salah, names Liverpool star as EPL Player of the season

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named the Premier League Player of the Season for 2018/19 beating the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sergio Aguero and Aubameyang.

The 27-year-old Dutch professional footballer has been impressive this season for Liverpool in all competitions helping them reach the final of the Champions League.

Virgil Van Dijk now becomes the third defender to win the Premier League Player of the Season award in history.

The two previous defenders who have won the prize are ex Manchester United man Nemanja Vidic and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Winner was decided by a combination of votes from fans, the captains of the 20 Premier League clubs, and a panel of football experts.

Egypt international Mohamed Salah won the last award after his remarkable goal scoring form for Liverpool last term.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award after seeing off Raheem Sterling.

According to the report, the Dutchman was officially crowned the winner on Sunday, April 28.

At the last count, the big centre-half has played an important role so far in Liverpool’s quest for both the Premier League and Champions League this campaign.
